Assistant Professor

Topics: Statistics communication, statistical numeracy

Sanne J.W. Willems has a BSc in Applied Mathematics and a MSc in Statistics. She started her PhD on adapting models to maintain the properties of categorical data, but during the process, she decided to switch research focus towards statistics communication. Since then, she collaborates on trans- and interdisciplinary projects, studying effective ways of communicating statistics and their uncertainties to improve data-driven decision making. She also strives to improve (statistical) numeracy in society and to create more awareness for this topic among statisticians. To this aim, she founded the Statistics Communication section of the Netherlands Society for Statistics and OR, initiated the national reading group on the topic, and participates in various outreach activities.
